Optimizing research fishing survey for Opakapaka
This simulation tested the value of information gained from different sampling strategies for the Bottomfish Fishery Independent Survey in Hawaii (BFISH) research fishing. We wanted to identify the optimal effort to best estimate the Opakapaka population under two types of environmental regimes, 1. assuming normal conditions persist over the next 25 years, and 2. assuming some environmentally driven shift causes a decline in recruitment over the next 25 years.
